This Guillemot egg, has been dried and taxidermy treated, a small drilled hole is visible on on side of the egg due to the contents having been carefully removed through. It is called a museum quality as there is only one hole in the egg.
The egg is pyriform (pear – shaped), with one end notably more pointed than the other – a typical featur3e of guillemot eggs, which helps prevent them from rolling off the cliff edges. The natural colour and marking is visible and vary widely between individual eggs, serving as a form of camouflage and possibly individual identification by parent bird.
