Driftwood Creature designed by Icelandic artist Asa Valdimarsdóttir

Driftwood Creature designed by Icelandic artist Asa Valdimarsdóttir

Ása sees driftwood not as mere discarded wood, but as natural sculptures shaped by time, water and weather. Instead of forcing the material into rigid forms, she works with its inherited curves, textures and organic lines, allowing each piece to suggests what t wants to become. When needed Ása incorporates clay (or what ever other material she prefers) to the driftwood to create her art figures for her final touch of her art piece.

Hrútur is a male Icelandic sheep – been with the people of Iceland since the age of  Settlement when Norse settlers arrived in Iceland.

Made out of driftwood and clay. The ram named Mjölnir  is 12 cm tall

Ása is an Icelandic artist inspired by her country’s dramatic nature, rich folklore and islands animals. Her work evokes the timeless stories, landscape and animal life on our little volcanic island. Reflecting both the fragility and enduring power of Icelandic nature and tradition.
